Daily Devotional – 2/9/15 “Where is our praise?”

Yesterday was a day for me. It was a day where my spirit just wasn’t right and no matter how I prayed, I just couldn’t get into the right spiritual frame of mind. Have you ever been there? Yea, I know you probably have it all together but baby, I’m human and I sometimes struggle with this spiritual thang because every moment is a battle against not flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness that is trying to destroy kingdom workers. Yes, I know you expect those of us who stand in the pulpit to deliver God’s word to have it all together but you do understand that we are human, right? Yes, we have a higher standard but don’t you get the fact that we have 999 different kinds of spirits to deal with, with a smile and a prayer? When was the last time you prayed for the pastor, the co-pastor or the pulpit clergy members? When was the last time you prayed for the first lady or the first husband? You do know she or he has to deal with the pastor after he or she gets home from dealing with us, Christian folk, right? And you do understand that not all Christian folk act and talk like Saints, don’t you? I’m just trying to get you to understand that the encourager sometimes need encouraging too.

See, a dead worship service to a Pastor/Minister is like a dead club to a person in the world; they don’t stay long. Yea, they’ll find someplace else to party that’s jumping. Wouldn’t you? What’s the sense of going to God’s house without the intention of getting your praise on? Didn’t you make it through the hell from the week, didn’t you survive when someone else didn’t, and didn’t you come through with your mind when you know you should have been crazy, didn’t you still have all your senses and didn’t you have activity of your limbs? Every Sunday in God’s house should be a praise party because somebody should have something to celebrate and then we should be ready to join in to help them. The bible says in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” We might not get next Sunday.

Daily Devotional – 1/13/15 “Spiritual battle!”

Getting over the flu has been something! I mean, it comes quickly, quietly and attacks your entire body and even with medicine, afterwards it still takes time to fully get yourself back together. I tell y’all, I haven’t been this sick in a while and it’s taking me a minute because it has me feeling out of sorts, off my game and not myself and I don’t like that feeling. But then I realized this morning, that this feels almost like being in a spiritual battle for the bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Oh ok! See, here we are thinking we are doing something when we got to fight folk that are standing in our faces but they aren’t nothing compared to the ones we have to fight that we can’t see. Those are the ones we need to be preparing ourselves for. Yet you are too busy worried about a man who cheated on you, a woman who walked off and left you, church folk who said something about you, friends who didn’t call when you were sick, who didn’t show up when momma died, who didn’t text when your dog ran off, who didn’t congratulate you on your new job or post on your wall for your birthday but baby who got time to worry about that, we are in a spiritual battle!

You don’t have time to fight folk when you got a spiritual battle that is already waged against you. Who cares what folk are saying about you, let them talk. Who cares what they call you, just be mindful of what you answer too. Who cares that they say you’d never amount to nothing, keep adding up what they keep subtracting. Folks say all the time, how can she be a minister of God’s word and write fiction books yet I don’t entertain that mess because God gave me both gifts and He gives me full range of both. See, folk will talk you out your gift IF YOU LISTEN! All I am saying is this, as Saints of Gods on this Christian walk; we have a lot to deal with. This is why we have to stay prayed down, studied up, praised filled and shout ready. The enemy is a spiritual war that we have to fight every moment and we can’t fight it if we don’t know how to spot him and if we aren’t ready. Stop being off your game! Get up ready to fight. How do you do this? It’s simple, by lying down at night ready to fight. But you have to get yourself in order first and then get your house in order. You can’t be ready to fight a spiritual war if you are fighting within yourself and then in your home. If your house is already chaotic the enemy slides in and you don’t even notice. However there is hope because just like the flu, you can beat the battle but you have to fight. And when it’s over, you’ll be back to like you were and there’ll be no evidence that the flu I mean that you were even in a battle because now you are victorious!
