Daily Devotional – 2/6/18 “We have to go through!”

We go through K-12 before we graduate high school. We go through 2-4 years of college before we get a degree. We go through interviews before we get a job. We go through traffic before we reach our destination. We go through labor to give birth. We go through pain to heal. We go through grief to deal with lost. We go through training to learn. And sometimes, we even go through mistakes that teaches us, the hard way. In short, we go through. When we do, we deal with it. We deal with the pain of sickness, the grueling schedules of work, the accidents on the highways, the test and homework of school, the many failed relationships until you meet ‘the one,’ the pain of pushing out a baby and the juggling of bills versus money. We deal with the hectic throngs of life trying to be all for everybody and yourself. We deal with all those things. Yet, we have the hardest time dealing with spiritual warfare. We can find time to fight folk (physically, mentally and via social media) but we will not fight through fasting and prayer. We find the time to throw a fit when you’re mad at spouse but we’re afraid to cry loud and spare not the ears of the enemy. We lay down for folk but we will not lay on our face to fight spiritually.

Think about it. We get hurt, friends and family members die, we get in debt, we get sick, marriages end, businesses close and job lays you off and while you are praying; God doesn’t move as quick as you think so you get mad. You get mad at God and you stop going to worship unless it’s a benefit. You don’t pay tithes unless there’s a benefit to you. You don’t pray unless you’re in trouble. You don’t fellowship and you don’t serve unless it’s to be seen. What happened to going through the good and the bad? You can vow at the wedding but what about spiritually? Are you not willing to go through for Christ’s sake when He was willing to go through for yours? You know the story of how Jesus was accused, found not guilty but was still sentenced to death. He was persecuted by the people, beaten, made to carry His cross, hung, bled and died; He went through. But at the sign of trouble we throw in the towel, when God said just believe in me. We get sick and give up, when God has healing in the palm on His hand. We are quick to end the marriage when it gets hard, when God said what He has joined together let no man put asunder. What happened to going through? Where is the faith? Where is the trust in God? Where is the knowing, God got me? When will we get like Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:10 and confess, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Yes, we have to go through but go through knowing, God has me covered.
