Daily Devotional – 6/13/17 “Where is the Great Commission?”

When Jesus rose from the grave, He did so in order to fulfill the prophecy that had been spoken. But something else happened and it is recorded in Matthew 28:16-20. It says, “Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””

How many of you are neglecting this charge because you think it’s only for those called? How many of you have the mindset that it isn’t your place to help bring people to Christ? How many of you have your mouth closed when you’re in the midst of lost folk? Haven’t you seen the news or counted the RIPs? Some folk aren’t making it inside the 4 walls of the church, except by way of a casket. This means, ministry has to go into the streets with some voices that haven’t been heard before. We can no longer wait until Sunday. There are some living rooms that need to be changed to altars. There are some street corners that need to hold prayer meetings. There are some beauty and barber shops that need to be makeshift worship places. And some stores that need to be used. Why? That’s where the people are and we need to meet them there. This is why I use social media. I don’t care if you say it’s too long to read because one of these days, you’ll find the time and it will be just what you need. Even then I pray it’s by choice and not force.

Dear God,
Forgive us for not being the disciples you have called us to be. Forgive us for not doing your will. And forgive us for selfishly thinking of only ourselves. God, we know there is a cry across this nation that will only be silenced by your word. Raise up a people who are not afraid to serve you. Give a message to those who are relevant for this season who can be used to manifest miracles in dry places. Use the hands, feet and voices of those you’ve chosen to lay hands, cast out, rebuke and call down. We need mantle carriers who aren’t afraid to go into enemy territories to set your people free. We need worshippers whose war cry can shatter walls. We need intercessors who can truly intercede. Do it God above our expectations. Change the sound until it is pleasing in your ears! Prune until you are pleased with our appearance. And burn in us until our sacrifice smells good in your nostrils.
Amen.
