Daily Devotional – 8/12/16 “People pleaser or God’s servant?”

Because we are spiritual beings in natural bodies, we sometimes seek the approvals of others. Please understand, it’s not something that most of us set out to do yet we find ourselves doing it without even noticing. Think about it. Many times we post things on social media for likes and comments and because we do this, we get our feelings hurt when we get 10 likes instead of 100. We tend to get dressed with the thought, in the back of our mind, ‘what will they think.’ And we’ll even go places we know we aren’t comfortable just to please people. Well beloved, I’ve lived long enough to now know and understand, people pleasing isn’t for me. See, I’ve come to the realization that when you try to please people, you’ll get let down in the process because what you thought they should have liked and accepted, they won’t. Now, you’re all in your feelings because you’ve been disappointed by somebody you had no business trying to please anyway.

Look, we have to make it up in our minds that we are no longer working for the approval of man because when you work for their approval, you’ll also get their opinions. So instead I’ll just say like Galatians 1:10, “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” Don’t you understand that there will always be somebody who don’t like the way you talk, somebody mad at the way you walk, somebody looking you up and down for the way you dress and somebody speaking on your blessing. Chile, folk get mad talking about you think you better than everybody else all because you can rock a $10 dress from WalMart. This is why, as children of God, we’ve got to get away from being of this world and seek to please our Heavenly Father. You won’t be liked by everybody, deal with it. Everyone won’t celebrate your accomplishments, get over it. Everybody won’t give you a 5 star review, suck it up. Because if pleasing people is your goal, obviously you aren’t a servant of God.
