Daily Devotional – 11/30/15 “Whatcha looking like inside?”

Your body may be snatched, your face beat with the latest makeup while walking in the highest heels and chile your hair is relaxed, dyed and laid to the side. You may even look good in your suit, tie matches it just right, shoes on fleek and your haircut and line is perfect … but Saint of God if your soul isn’t right, you ain’t worth the effort you put into it! Like my Grams say, you ain’t worth a penny! Yea, you can outdo me with the latest fashions, wear nicer jewelry or carry around the most up to date electronics but it won’t change the fact that our caskets will be the same shape. Yea, you may think you are better than me but our grave will be dug the same, six feet deep. Yes, I get it; you can probably recite more scriptures than me by memory but if my memory serves me right, you aren’t living by them. So what if you’ve been at the church longer than anybody, what other purpose are you serving other than mess and gossip? Oh, I know you’re blessed and highly favored but are you approachable? I heard you were anointed but do your words match? I see you at church every Sunday but how’s your living outside of the doors?

Saint of God, the worst thing you can be to the Kingdom of God is a fake. Being dressed up on the outside but tore up on the inside is like spraying air freshener in an unclean garbage can. When the mist fades, it’ll still be dirty, funky and unusable. When will you clean up the mess instead of covering it? Beloved, God doesn’t care about your clothes, house size, the kind of car you drive or the money in your account for the bible tells me in Jeremiah 17:10, “But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” If you aren’t getting what you think you deserve, search inwardly. Baby, you can give to every homeless person you pass, you can feed every stray cat or dog, you can help out during the holidays or even volunteer once or twice but if you aren’t doing it from a genuine place in your heart and mind; it’s all for nothing anyway. Fix yourself on the inside because it is what matters!

1 Peter 3:3-4, “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
