Daily Devotional – 2/11/14 “Amazing Grace!”

I know you’re familiar with the hymn, Amazing Grace but there’s another version that says, “Amazing Grace, Amazing Grace; God’s grace it’s truly amazing. I wondered why they always sang it, I wondered why they always had to hear it but now I lived long enough to understand the unmerited favor God gave to man. And it’s because of grace, I’m standing her today. His amazing grace brought me all the way. His amazing grace brought me all the way. For ten thousand tongues to sing, I thank you Lord for your amazing grace.”

Now in order for you to truly understand just how amazing God’s grace, is let me explain. See, amazing is defined as so extraordinary or wonderful as to be barely believable or to cause extreme surprise or outstandingly good, skillful, or admirable and grace is defined as in Christianity, the infinite love, mercy, favor, and goodwill shown to humankind by God. Oh but in Lakisha’s logical thinking, every time God wakes our ungrateful, never satisfied, always wanting and barely working, raggedy rejoicing and pitiful praising, sorry shouting yet still sinning selves up; that’s His Amazing Grace. Every time God allows us to be healed even after we’ve complained the entire time about the medicine, that’s His Amazing Grace. Every time He covers us even though we continue to go where we shouldn’t, that’s His Amazing Grace. Every time He brings us out of the mess we’ve gotten ourselves in and every time He provides for us even though we complain about the 10% we aren’t even giving anyway, that’s His Amazing Grace. That time you got promoted yet by man’s standard you didn’t qualify, that time you got the yes when you knew it should have been no, that time when you walked away from that car wreck that should have killed you, that time when you should have overdosed yet you’re alive to tell it and that time when he or she broke your heart yet you’re now being loved the right way, that’s His Amazing Grace. And if you’ve ever doubted His grace, keep living. If you’ve never felt His grace, keep praying. If you’re experienced His grace and you’re still the same, shame on you! For Titus 3:7 proclaims, “Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life!”

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
